Mükerrem Yanar graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences in 1993. She worked in the Undersecretariat of Customs between 1989 and 1995. She was appointed as Deputy Tax Inspector in 1997, Tax Inspector in 2000 and Chief Tax Inspector in 2007. While she was a Chief Tax Inspector under the Tax Inspection Board, she resigned in 2013.

She has written an unpublished proficiency research study titled “Banking Sector in Turkey and the Effects of Financial Crises on Banks”, a scientific research report on “International Short-Term Capital Movements and Applicability of Tobin Tax”, and a seminar report on “Investment Incentive Practices in Turkey and in the World”.

Mükerrem Yanar lived in England between 2001 and 2002 and speaks advanced level English.
